VICTORIA FALLS DAY

Up and ready to go see the Falls about **am. We drove down and found parking. The first excitement was standing in the ticket centre to suddenly hear screaming and yelling right behind me. Bev had been holding a shopping bag and a huge baboon had snuck in the door and ripped it out of her hand! That baboon was the first of hundreds that traumatized us all day! They were really used to being around people and it was clear they were not intimidated at all. When we had lunch the Zambians sitting by the entrance took to them with a stick to keep them from coming into the restaurant and taking off with our belongings. One of the girls was walking along and a big guy came and stole her coke bottle. He pierced it with his teeth and started lapping it up. She was terrified. After we got over the shock of the sheer amount of them, we began walking to the Falls and were absolutely mesmerized. The energy of the water was overwhelming, and the spray came down like a torrential downpour in the jungle. The experience was absolutely breathtaking. After we had seen the Falls from many angles, and walked over the gorge, and hiked down to the bottom of the canyon where the water raged violently as it made its way down the river. We also were attacked by baboons on the way back up the trail and had to arm ourselves with sticks to ward them off. Safely back at the top, we exited the park and walked across the bridge that connects Zambia and Zimbabwe. We had to go through immigration to get onto the bridge, the bridge is "no mans land" and the other side is Zimbabwe. You can see the Falls from the bridge. For dinner we went to a really cool restaurant called the Zambezi Cafe where we tried "croc bites" made of crocodile. They were white meat and didn't have a lot of taste and were rather chewy. Mike and Jane tried caterpillar, Gerry had Impala stew, Jeanie had a kudu burger, and I had chicken and rice! Forever the adventurous one! Got back to Jolly Boys in time to shower and have a glass of wine before bed. Fantastic day!!!
